Carry Tender Much Empty


Hahhha! It becomes us! Friday is nearly upon it. Bring Home The Gold! There's more hype than ever right now in the WWTG camp - (we've broken through the 200-emails-copied-to-all-threshold to get this thing launched RIGHT), feelin BIG. Hold tight all a'y'all stretchin those hamstrings to get down for this. Bring It.

It's been non-stop chez Aberdeen an'all - Petrocollapse went OFF, and Rob!Run!Reach! on Aberdeen Student Radio reached a lot deeper than ever before as I was joined by Lovely Dave, who brought with him a stack of post-punk/ambient/pop rekkids, ready to bounce back'n'forth with me. Very much in Simon Reynold's territory, I figure. If I'd only let him play one song he would've gone for Wire's 'Eardrum Buzz', but as it was we got through a BIG lot. My favourite from what he brung has probably gotta be the Peter Gabriel track, but yeah, it was ALL good. Hope you enjoy this somewhat oblique strategy at bigger listening - switch off your Constant Newness Itch Machine, you can listen to all of this like it was just released...

My thought is: Joe's right. Some of this stuff is in straight 4/4. Some of it features guitars. Some of it's verse/chorus. Some of it's from 1984. Some of it was played by people over six feet tall... If it's new to you then it's new. This show deviates from the norms hereabouts, to my ill-informed ears anyway, but you've got to keep questing, and the past is as up-for-grabs as the bleeding-edge present. It was a lot of fun to play these tunes so check 'em.

By the way, the best place to hear the Fall's 'Prole Art Threat' is not the hard-to-find 'Palace of Swords Reversed' compilation but the terrific mini-LP 'Slates' (recently re-released by Castle/Sanctuary).
