Bashment Specialists

The Heatwave website had an overhaul back in October last year (damn, five months flew past - this Aberdeen contract only lasts 9months and already it's puttin me behind the beat...). Since then, there's been loads to report; these ldn-based bashment specialists have been:
  • running their mind-blowing, jump-up parties and playin at everyone else's (they blew the dancefloor apart when they came to c90 back in June - pix up here
  • writing a regular blog (sign up to the feed for access to high-quality mpfrees)
  • putting the finishing touches to their 'This Is An England Story' mix (which previously went out as a Blogariddims mix, chat here) for release on Soul Jazz records
  • put together releases on their own label from the likes of dj C
  • put together mixes and charts for us consumers of internet-based content, so as that we might learn together - (particularly check the fresh-hot Rowdy Bashment 2007 Mix, 45 tracks in 68mins, sweatin the riddims out)
  • AND have been producing their own essential riddims...
Their first production is the Piano Riddim. It's got a clean, chunky piano-driven hook which drips with subtle dubbed-delays, riding a bouncing, driving beat. The weight comes from a warping, flexing sub-bass. It's a proper good-vibes riddim, it compels smiling as much as dancing. But if it's infectious as an instrumental, it's the vocal cuts that are irresistible. No less a figure than Warrior Queen voices a version called 'Things Change', which is shortly to be released on Soul Jazz accompanied by a Dj C remix, and further versions featuring Riko Dan, the Heatwave's Rubi Dan and Quality Diamond are on the way. I love these Dj C remixes - his snares and hi-hats are always so Crisp&Dry - this is gonna be an essential purchase...

So I threw together another rush'n'ruff-assembly traktor mix of Heatwave-inspired party tunes, including their 'Things Change' and their 'Tambouriddim' version, as well a wicked Vybz Kartel vocal on 77Klash's Swarm riddim, a recent remix of Enur ft. Natasja's 'Calabria2007' (a tune I first heard through the Heatwave mixes), and some properly hot fiya from dj C's Sonic Weapons LP. Grab it here:

  1. Lady Saw - "I Got Your Man" (Tijuana riddim) [VP records]
  2. Warrior Queen & The Heatwave - "Things Change" (Piano Riddim) [Soul Jazz]
  3. Kanye West - "Gold / A It Dat" (Wayne&Wax remix) [Mashit mashups]
  4. Santogold - "You'll Find A Way" (Switch & Sinden remix)
  5. Sunship feat. Warrior Queen - "Quits" (Sinden remix)
  6. Vybz Kartel - "Catch You Breath" (The Swarm Riddim) [Dutty Artz]
  7. Enur ft. Natasja - "Calabria 2007" (Hatchmatik Clubabria remix)
  8. Toddla T - "Inna di Dancehall" (Count of Mote Cristal & Sinden remix)
  9. Dj C - "Animal Attraction (ft. Zulu)" Sonic Weapons [Mashit]
  10. The Heatwave (feat Rubi Dan +more) - "Tambouriddim refit" Juggling Machine Vol.1 [The Heatwave]
